WATCHET’S only remaining bank is to close in October - a decision greeted with dismay in the town and described by business and tourist leaders as “devastating” and “an utter disaster”.

The Swain Street branch of Lloyds is one of 23 being axed in October as part of a three-year programme of cuts involving the loss of 9,000 jobs.

After the closure, the town centre’s sole cashpoint will be at the Co-op, available only during opening hours. Some banking services are available at the Post Office.
