POPULAR district nurse Liz Boots was given a fond farewell by colleagues at Irnham Lodge Surgery, in Minehead, on Thursday when she retired after 28 years of nursing.

Mrs Boots qualified in 1973 at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, and underwent district nurse training five years later in Hove, Sussex, where she worked for ten years.

In 1988 she moved with her family to Watchet and worked on the surgical ward of Minehead Hospital before joining the then King Edward Practice in 1989.

The practice then relocated to Irnham Lodge and Mrs Boots became a valued member of the district nursing team.

She also became a television star, appearing in the television series Doctors' Orders with Dr Paul Slade and Dr Huw Thomas.

She will be retiring to Maidstone, in Kent, to be closer to her sons and grandchildren.

She plans to keep busy with her hobbies of sugar craft, decorating, gardening and designing and making greetings cards.
