CHILDREN at Watery Lane pre-school in Minehead are enjoying the fruits or their labours as they harvest their first crop of vegetables and flowers from their new garden. The pre-school has been able to build four large raised growing beds and to purchase tools, seeds and potting compost thanks to parent Anthony Weaver, who raised £705 in sponsorship for completing this year's London Marathon The children have grown carrots, beans, tomatoes, broccoli, sunflowers and sweet peas from seed. They have also enjoyed decorating the pre-school garden with a variety of tubs and hanging baskets. The learning involved has also included recycling as the group wormery and compost bins have helped fill the containers with good quality compost. And the children have made bird scarers and mini greenhouses from plastic bottles. The wood to build the raised beds was also recycled and bought from Timber Re-Use.
