WEST Somerset Community College welcomed a group of 34 students and three teachers who were on an exchange trip from partner school in Germany, the Freiherr-vom-Stein Gymnasium, Bunde.
During the week, the German students enjoyed a varied programme of activities and trips, visiting Taunton, Bristol, Plymouth and Longleat. They spent one day in college, working with their English partners and college staff in workshop sessions focusing on science, drama and cookery.
College principal Nick Swann and head of modern languages Mark Tranter welcomed the group to the college and West Somerset.
In his speech, Mr Swann emphasised the importance of college's strong links with its partner schools in Germany and France, not only as an opportunity to develop language skills but also to gain first-hand an understanding of the culture of another country.
The Germans' visit was part of the very successful exchange programme organised by the college's modern languages department. The exchange with Bunde began in 1966 and is the longest-running German exchange in Somerset.
