THE secretary of Minehead and district branch of the Parkinson's Disease Society has been awarded honorary life membership of the UK group for her exceptional service.

Peggy Browning founded the branch seven years ago and has since seen it go from strength to strength.

Today there are 50 members and, as well as giving support and advice, the group also offers hands-on practical help for sufferers and carers through workshop sessions such as speech therapy.

Mrs Browning said she was "surprised, shocked and embarrassed" to receive the award and said it should be dedicated to the branch itself for achieving so much in such a short time.

Anyone wanting to find out more about the work of Minehead and district branch of the society may call Mrs Browning on 01643 705056.

President Dr Sandy Jordan is pictured on the left presenting the honorary life membership certificate to Mrs Browning. Also pictured, from the left, are chairman Tony Milton and members Fran Jordan, Dot Redd and Marie Milton.
