Charges for some of South Somerset District Council's leisure facilities are to go up.

The increase comes to about 3 per cent and the venues affected are: Goldenstones, St Michael's Hall, Yeovil Recreation Centre (athletics only), Turners Barn Lane and Yew Tree Park (football only).

The new charges will come into effect on January 1st next year at Goldenstones (with the exception of school swimming) while increases at the other venues will come into effect on April 1st, including school swimming at Goldenstones.

Members of the district council's Area South Committee approved the new charges at a meeting last week without any lengthy debate. It was also decided to freeze the fees for rugby, football and 'crazy' golf at Yeovil Recreation Centre until those facilities had been improved.
