SOME 100 yards of the Dulverton weir and leat footpath has been upgraded and is open to social-distancing walkers.
The footpath is now open and more accessible to all.
The repairs are an important part of the initiative by Somerset West and Taunton Council in partnership with Dulverton Weir and Leat Conservation Trust.
The aim is to restore and safeguard Dulverton’s medieval weir and leat system for the whole community.
The trust says that it is most grateful to the council for its hard work and pleased that this project is beginning to make progress: “We want everyone in the community to be able to enjoy and appreciate this valuable ancient monument, which is recognised by academics as one of the best preserved medieval weir and leat systems in England.”
Dulverton Weir and Leat Conservation Trust will be reviewing its activities in the light of Government advice and will be keeping its supporters updated on developments.
