SIR — I would not want your readers to think that Minehead Middle School is content in any way with the plans drawn up for the ground maintenance depot on our field (Free Press April 17).
We were asked if we would allow a small part of the field to be used as a storage location for "a few lawn mowers and some compost". When the plans arrived we were shocked that this has turned into a fullscale depot.
We have objected in the strongest terms on the basis that it is dangerous to mix large lorries and small children (from the nursery opposite) and that a large proportion of our playing field would be permanently removed.
Anyone who walks down Townsend Road will know that we frequently use the field both as a sports and a playtime facility.
I understand that as a result of numerous objections, the plans are now being revised and reduced in scope.
We would be much happier if another site could be found.
Paul Rushforth,
Headteacher,
Minehead Middle School.
