SIR — I would like to know why I have seen no mention anywhere that you cannot pay your Council Tax or anything else at West Somerset Council’s office in Minehead.

I made a special journey to Minehead and paid a parking fee in the car park so was not pleased to find a note on the door saying no payment was accepted there.

I went inside to find out why, only to be told the office is closing - but as it had not closed why could it not take a payment?

I was told I can pay at the post office or better still by direct debit, and the council would prefer direct debit.

No way will I go direct debit. I believe the council has been lacking in customer service by not informing everyone that you need to go to its office in Williton if you want to pay by cash or better still support your local post office by paying there, with no fee to pay.
