SIR — I write with regard to Rosemary Russell's wish to see Watchet Carnival Queen conveyed in her own float (Your Letters July 10).

Watchet Carnival Club would like nothing better than to see its royal family conveyed in suitably regal fashion, but our aim to provide a royal carriage by next year's Watchet Carnival is thwarted by the lack of resources, both human and financial.

We have no access to the horse-drawn gilt-plated fleet available to the House of Windsor and we lack the manpower to raise the necessary funds and to design and build a float. And if we had all this, we still lack the storage space needed.

We are sure that there are people in the Free Press area who would be pleased to help organise a fitting conveyance for our carnival aristocracy which may even allow these youngsters to pay royal visits to other community events in this area.

Anyone who has constructive suggestions, offers of assistance with this project or would like to help Watchet Carnival Club throughout the year can contact me on 01984 641337.

May we also offer a big thank you to the members of Minehead Motor Club who are providing superb cars and the drivers to convey the young people round the Watchet Carnival Parade route on Sunday July 26 for their special day.

Nigel Pike.

Watchet Carnival Club.
