A GRAND 21-foot tall knitted Christmas tree was the highlight of a charity festival which raised more than £1,850 for Save the Children. Organised by Minehead branch of the charity in conjunction with the town's Methodist church, the fourth annual Christmas Tree Festival was hailed as the most successful yet. Around 1,000 people flocked into the church over the festival weekend, with many turning up just to see the knitted creation for themselves. In all, more than 1,000 people had a hand in making the tree in a project which also saw some 300 children being taught to knit to enable them to make 100 feet of garland decorations. But, although impressive, the knitted tree was not the only exhibit to inspire admiration and praise, with more than 30 decorated trees featuring in the festival, which this year had the theme of Christmas around the world.
