'SPIN it to win it' was the creed at the Beach on Saturday as Graham Tabrett and Ian Wheatley spun table toppers Ilton out for 149 to set up an emphatic victory for their side on Saturday.
After deciding to bowl, the Kilve bowlers found the breakthrough hard to come by as Ilton's openers took advantage of a flat, hard wicket to put on an adventurous 55 for the first wicket.
The introduction of Tabrett's leg spin paid dividends immediately as Oliver and Ash were dismissed in his first two overs leaving Ilton 56-2.
Price and Dwiar took their time to consolidate the innings, picking up ones and twos and making the most of a lightning fast outfield when the opportunity arose. The total reached 100 in the 29th over, but try as they could neither batsman could take control against the twin pronged spin attack. With the score on 117 Lloyd moved quickly to make Price the first of his three stumpings, and the first of three wickets to fall for just one run.
Both Tabrett and Wheatley were now right on top and the Ilton middle and late order had no answer as they floundered and perished to a stream of desperate shots.
The dismissal of Paul in the 45th over concluded an astonishing collapse of eight wickets for 32 runs and gave Tabrett figures of 6-62, while Wheatley finished with 4-34.
Kilve openers Lloyd and Wheatley were relatively untroubled as the visiting attack became preoccupied with testing the middle of the wicket and offered enough scoring chances to give both batsmen a start.
Change bowler Bradbur proved more miserly and his probing spell had its reward when Wheatley drove to cover with the score on 69.
Steve Baker's arrival at the crease signalled the beginning of the end for Ilton as without delay he launched a calculated assault on a tiring attack.
He was merciless on all the bowlers on his way to a blistering 54 at more than a run a ball. Baker and Lloyd's partnership of 82 came in just 11.4 overs and while Lloyd's 47 no was somewhat more unobtrusive it was no less valuable as Kilve claimed the maximum 25 points.
Ilton: 149 (P Oliver 42, G Dwiar 37, G Tabrett 6-62, I Wheatley 4-34).
Kilve: 151-1 (S Baker 54 no, S Lloyd 47 no, I Wheatley 33).
