KILVE'S recent winning run came to an abrupt end at the hands of their opponents Burnham on Saturday. For the first time this season Kilve batted first and paid the price for failing to set a big enough target.

Openers Stuart Lloyd and Shaun Mitchell gave Kilve a reasonable start before Lloyd was bowled by Tom Coombes for 18 with the score on 28 in the ninth over.

Neil Cobb joined Mitchell and played some good attacking shots but was bowled by Burnham veteran Brian Brogden for 23 just as he was gaining momentum. Mitchell also lost his wicket at a crucial stage when he was run out for 26 with the score on 75 in the 24th over.

Dave Cobb was scoring at a steady rate but couldn't find a partner to stay with him as Kilve wickets began to fall regularly.

Only James Bryant, who made a quick-fire 34 before becoming Coombe's second victim, made any other significant contribution alongside Cobb, who finished unbeaten on 41 when the Kilve innings closed on 159-8 after their 45 overs.

Coombes (3-42) and Harris (2-32) were Burnham's main wicket-takers with Brogden and Batchelor also claiming a wicket each.

In reply, Burnham openers Puddy and Bloodworth started positively. Puddy in particular hit an aggressive 26 before he was caught off the bowling of Phil Sylvester.

Batchelor then joined Bloodworth to form Burnham's main partnership. Bloodworth was eventually out for 35 when he was superbly caught at square leg by Martin Tully off the spin bowling of Glen Manchip with the score on 98.

Batchelor continued to score well but Kilve had some hope when the Burnham middle order collapsed to leave them on 140-6 after a run-out and some good bowling from Manchip (3-32) and Neil Cobb.

Harris then gave Batchelor sufficient support to see Burnham reach the required target in the 43rd over as the innings closed on 161-6 and Batchelor unbeaten with an impressive 73.
