A WEST Somerset small business has been recognised as one of the UK’s leaders in sustainability-led growth.

Award-winning sustainable living shop Our Precious Earth was selected by Green Growth 100, an initiative launched by Small Business Britain in partnership with BT to spotlight small businesses which successfully use sustainability as a core driver of growth.

The Minehead shop, founded in 2023, is led by Keith Hunt, who has placed sustainability at the core of his business.

Mr Hunt has shown through continually increasing his range of eco-friendly products, the business can deliver both environmental impact and commercial success.

Green Growth 100 champions a hundred small UK businesses which are embedding sustainable practices into their operations, from cutting waste and energy use to rethinking supply chains, attracting new customers, and strengthening long-term resilience.

Mr Hunt said: “I feel honoured that my business has been selected among 100 businesses from across the nation who are helping make a positive impact on the environment.

“It is heartwarming that people want to make simple changes to our everyday lives while helping the planet.”

Mr Hunt founded his multi-award winning eco-shop, now situated in Minehead’s Wellington Square, after many years of doing beach cleans and seeing the impact that plastic waste was having on the environment.

He decided to do something more to help, and his shop has since grown into a popular business which is working hard to make positive changes.

Small Business Britain chief executive and founder Michelle Ovens said: “Green Growth 100 celebrates the small businesses that are showing sustainability and growth go hand in hand.

“These businesses are not only reducing their environmental impact, but also strengthening their operations, engaging customers, and building more resilient business models.

“Our Precious Earth is a brilliant example of how sustainability can fuel long-term success.”

Green Growth 100 follows the work of the Willow Review, an independent, Government-backed review into the financial benefits of sustainability, which was co-chaired by Small Business Britain with BT sitting as a steering board member.

The Willow Review published its landmark recommendations last summer, outlining a roadmap to unlock the vast financial opportunities of sustainability for Britain’s 5.6 million small businesses.

BT UK business chief commercial officer Chris Sims said: “The businesses in Green Growth 100 are setting the benchmark for how sustainability can unlock innovation and commercial opportunity.

“It is inspiring to see how small businesses across the UK are turning greener practices into real business growth.

“We are proud to support this initiative and congratulate Our Precious Earth on being recognised.”

As a featured business, Our Precious Earth will also be in the running for the Green Growth Awards hosted by BT on March 12.

The awards evening will see two standout businesses from the line-up awarded a £5,000 grant to help them scale their sustainability ambitions and continue driving positive change.

Small Business Britain champions the UK’s 5.5 million small businesses, no matter their location, sector, or ambition level, and is committed to making entrepreneurship as inclusive as possible.
