A MINEHEAD man has shaved off his wavy ginger hair for charity – and raised £600 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Jordan Phippen, 22, who has worked at Tesco in Minehead for the last five years, undertook the sponsored shave in the store’s entrance, watched by colleagues, family and friends, and members of the public.

His hairdresser was none other than his younger sister Jessica, who is an apprentice in Minehead.

“She’s trimmed my hair before but this is the first big haircut she’s given it, and I felt nervous with lots of people watching,” said Jordan.

“It was weird feeling my hair falling, and when I felt the top of my head I knew I’d really done something – it felt good.”

Jordan was inspired to take the sponsored shave after several members of his family and a friend were affected by cancer.

“I just wanted to do something, so I chose to play my part and do this,” he said.

Colleagues at the store, as well as family, friends, and members of the public all chipped in to support his effort, and now Jordan will send a cheque for £600 to the charity.

As it turned out, he has not missed his waves and curls, and is “kind of liking” the close shave, so he now plans to keep it short and see how it looks.
