LOCAL people looking for a job, training or new career have the chance to talk to experts at an event in Minehead on Thursday February 22 at The Beach Hotel.

The Recruit West Somerset event will see employers and training providers come together to raise awareness of current opportunities in the area.

Similar events last year attracted hundreds of people looking for work or a career change.

The event will offer advice and information directly from employers on what they look for when recruiting, and advice on how existing skills can transfer into a new career.

Local training providers will be on hand to answer questions in relation to skills development and training, helping to ensure people become suitably qualified for current and future job roles.

Cllr Andrew Hadley, lead member for economic growth and regeneration at West Somerset Council, said: “This event provides the perfect opportunity for our community to find out more about local employment and training opportunities available in the area now or in the near future and to speak to employers about what they look for when recruiting.

“We hope, like previous events that we have run over the years, that this event has some great outcomes for the people of West Somerset.”

Anyone interested in attending should go along with a copy of their CV as some employers will have vacancies and apprenticeships on offer.

The event is at The Beach Hotel from 3.30pm to 7pm. Organisers include West Somerset Council, Jobcentre Plus and Hinkley Point C.

Louise Brown, Hinkley Point C jobs service lead, said: “We are happy to support the event along with our site operations contractors working ... to promote current roles available within catering, security, facilities management and administration.”

Other employers already signed up to attend include Berry’s Coaches, Brook Food, Styles Ice Cream, Somerset Partnership Trust, McDonalds, Haven, Butlin’s, Price Western, Weatherspoon’s, RAF, Army, Blue Bird Care, St Audries Bay Holiday Club, Nettlecombe Court and Foxes Academy.
