DOVERY Manor Museum in Porlock will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Peace Day, the end of World War One, with a presentation and book launch on Friday (July 19).

Jeff Cox’s book, ‘Those Who Served’, tells of the impact of the 1914-18 war on the parishes of Porlock, Luccombe, and Selworthy.

It relates, year by year, the experiences of some of the local men fighting overseas and pays tribute to the tireless efforts of the men and women back home.

Jeff is the great-great grandson of the printer Samuel Cox, who launched the West Somerset Free Press in 1860. He reported for the Free Press in the late 1970s and subsequently worked for the BBC foreign news.

His book will be launched at 6.30pm in the Museum Solar. Admission is free and the event will include wine and nibbles. Donations to the museum are very welcome.
