I’m close to four decades living in Williton and use Long Street by car or on foot most days of the week.
In that time there have been, I think, four fatal accidents on this road.
The speeding along this stretch of road is some times unbelievable. Recently I have seen over-taking at great speed on the zebra crossing, and a Land Rover with horse box going so fast the driver had to break for the car in front turning off and ended up jack-knifed across the road, to name a couple of incidents.
I contacted the parish council about having more speed limit sings erected and the street lighting from Brook Road to the Free Press offices, which is very bad, improved.
The council informed the Highways Department who, I believe, came back with a negative response.
It is only a matter of time before there could be another unhappy ending.
D J Sully, Williton.
