SIR — Now is the time for all parish councils and parish meetings to stand up and be counted.
You only have five representatives out of 22 so please make your votes count.
We have attended meetings and we have seen some members who never say a word and simply rubber stamp what is put in front of them.
We have seen the members who not only always vote with the management but whose continuous cloying flattery makes you feel embarrassed that they should behave so in public. You put forward your parish candidates. You are the only people who can vote for them. So make sure you vote and add some good independent minded people who are not afraid to speak up on Exmoor local matters.
At the moment, matters are balanced too far in favour of conservation of ponies, butterflies, plants and archaeology and nothing in favour of its local inhabitants.
This is the only tiny chance of slightly democratic representation on the national park that Exmoor inhabitants have.
