HOUSEHOLDS across Exmoor are being asked to take part in what is said to be the largest-ever survey of housing needs in the national park.
The survey, which closes on March 31, wants to hear from those struggling to afford a home on the moor, those who have moved away because of housing costs, or who work on Exmoor but have to live elsewhere.
Organised by Exmoor National Park Authority (ENPA) with Somerset and North Devon Councils, the results will be used next year in a report on the housing needs of every Exmoor parish.
An ENPA spokesperson said: “A letter with information about an online housing need questionnaire has been sent to national park households and includes a link and QR code which is simple and easy to complete.
“The information will be in strict confidence and will be vital to those considering housing needs for the future Exmoor Local Plan.

“The survey is aimed at those who might be finding accommodation in the local area unaffordable, whose home no longer meets their needs, or who wish to own their own home through a self/custom build project.”
The letter also asks for the survey to be shared with people who have moved away and want to return, local workers who live away and travel to Exmoor to work, or who live on Exmoor with family or others because of the cost of local housing.
Libraries in Dulverton, Porlock, Lynton, and South Molton have access to computers and will provide paper copies for those who are unable to complete an online survey.
If requested, paper copies can also be provided to parish or town councils for parishioners who cannot complete an online survey or visit a local library.
A digital poster and more information is available on the authority’s website.
