Cllr Sally de Renzy Martin stated that it was rumoured other organisations were looking to be putting on events.
Would it not be a good idea to contact and invite participation from these organisations and co-ordinate a celebration of a state occasion that involves the future king and queen of this country?
Cllr David Banks stated that these are "austere times", but a celebration would be available to all in this area to enjoy, not just individual groups which have been funded in the past, such as the Henry Davey playing field and Watchet's famous skate park.
He then went on to say "we can't go throwing £50 notes or hammering Council Tax payers on every issue". Why not? It seems to me a lot of money throwing has already been done.
The current financial situation in this country is being blamed for a lot of restrictions in spending and I feel that this is yet another excuse to add to the list.
This historic celebration would be for us all, not just the few - listen to the people to decide what they want, not just your personal opinions.
St George's Day and Easter are not celebrated by everyone but this is an occasion which will be celebrated worldwide. Watchet should be part of it.
Andrew Miller,
Watchet.
