I bought these table decorations in Minehead yesterday – small grey plastic shapes about a quarter of an inch in size.

Too small to sweep up and recycle after the wedding or party, so thrown away indiscriminately.

For the same price (50p) you could probably go down to the seafront and buy a bag of pretty coloured shells or tiny quartz pebbles (or find your own without undermining the coastline) – and if you want colour, you could strew bright yellow dandelion flowers over the table and have colour, originality and creativity and enhance your environmental credentials at the same time.

I challenge anybody to find anything more pathetic and pointless.
