SIR — On June 13 Wimbleball Lake was the venue for another Ironman 70.3 event which was, as before, well-organisedwith 1,300 competitors from all over the world and another 6,000 spectators.
The day started at 7am with the swim an hour late due to mist on the lake which burnt off and the day was glorious, warm and sunny good for the athletes and spectators who were able to relax and enjoy the day.
The event not only brings a real buzz to the lake for the weekend but all the accommodation providers in the area are booked up weeks before, and many of the competitors come for training breaks from February onwards as the course is know as the toughest one in the world.
This all helps the local economy in these difficult times.
We need to make sure this event is a permanent fixture, then at least the local businesses know they have a guaranteed income to kick start the summer.
