A MODEL railway enthusiast was inspired to produce a wagon after visiting West Somerset Rural Life Museum at Allerford – and he has donated £450 from the sale profits.

John Langley, of Taunton, spotted an old sack in the museum's 'Shepherd's Room', advertising Minehead's former corn mill, now converted to flats.

The sack was used for grain and is marked '112 lbs gross – Fulford Phillips Ltd – steam rolled barley' together with the firm's Minehead and Dulverton phone numbers.

John, a model railway enthusiast and member of the Burnham Model Railway Club, used the details on the sack to produce a special limited edition OO gauge wagon (pictured below), and donated the sale profits to the museum.

Over a period of five years, he has produced many different model wagons and has raised no less than £37,000 for a variety of charities, many of them in Somerset.

He is pictured on the left handing over the cheque to Allerford museum secretary Michael Ferguson.
