A WEST Somerset man has escaped a driving ban after being caught speeding because of the impact it would have on his family and their two businesses.
Gary Holt, aged 62, of Bicknoller, pleaded guilty in Taunton Magistrates Court on May 21 to driving at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone on the A358 near Taunton on January 11 this year.
His licence was endorsed with three penalty points but District Judge Angela Brereton heard there were mitigating circumstances which meant he should not be disqualified, including the fact he was the main source of income for the household and the impact on his family, one of whom relied on him for transport.
Holt was ordered to pay costs of £120 and a £54 surcharge.
