EVERAL exhibitors made their first appearance, boosting entry numbers at Porlock Horticultural and Crafts Society Summer Show on Saturday, July 15.

As usual, the weather presented a challenge to the gardeners hoping to show their finest blooms, fruits and vegetables but they came up trumps and filled the Village Hall, giving the judges quite a task!

The exhibitors in the decorative section showed imagination and skill in responding to the chosen themes, from the intricate detail of the miniature arrangements to the humour of Winnie the Pooh’s birthday arrangement.

Imagination and skill were also the order of the day in the handicrafts section which showcased many crafted items, some made for a particular purpose and others purely ornamental.

The themes in the photography section prompted a variety of interpretations and made an interesting exhibition with pictures taken from all over the world as well as local scenes.

And for the first time in some years there were a number of entries in the home-made drink section.

The show also included plant sales, a raffle, a book stall and homemade refreshments and the afternoon finished with a presentation of cups and trophies by recently retired butcher Clive Downs.

The committee would like to thank all supporters and sponsors as well as those who helped on the day and made such light work of packing everything away.
