PORLOCK'S annual country fair is on track to become a record breaker after ideal weather and a host of attractions brought out the crowds.
The event last Sunday included a family fun dog show, stalls selling local produce to handmade items, classic cars and Harley Davidson displays and a range of traditional entertainment and challenges from Punch and Judy to guessing the weight of a pig.
But organisers were keen to put the emphasis for the 2012 fair on country crafts.
Ian Partington, one of the organisers, said: "We really wanted to focus on rural crafts and industry so we had demonstrations of thatching, basket making and wood carving.
"We also had old stationary engines and Allerford Forge brought along a forge and gave demonstrations.
"The event was a great success. The weather was ideal - fine but not too hot or sunny.
"We had lots of new attractions and it really brought out the crowds.
"It was great to see families sitting on the grass with food and drinks enjoying the West Somerset Brass Band and the West Somerset Morris Men."
The fair is organised by the Porlock Recreation Ground Committee and the majority of the money raised will go towards new equipment for the children's play area.
Organisers are still counting up the profits from the day but estimate that the final tally will be more than last year's, which was a record.
"Attendance was greater than last year," said Mr Partington.
"The car parking area on the recreation ground was at one point completely full and we were about to have to open another field - this has never happened before."
