SIR — May I through your letters say thank you to the people who helped me during my recent holiday in Minehead. I start with John the Taxi who took my wife and myself to the Minehead Community Hospital.

To the staff in the minor injuries unit, especially Tracey who drew the short straw and had to deal with me. She quickly realised that my stomach pains could be something serious and called the ambulance.

To the ambulance crew who did everything needed to reduce the pains and got me to Musgrove Park Hospital vey quickly and safely, and finally to the doctors and nurses in the Surgical Assessment unit in ward 2.

Everyone knew what to do, and I cannot thank them enough. Although it took two days out of my four-day mini break, I knew I was in good hands. There may be negative stories about our NHS but I have only ever received good treatment and feel that the positive needs to be told.

Roger Hern,

Cricklade.
