SIR — I have just let Watchet Town Council know that feelings on the pending dog ban (Free Press July 17) are running very high at the moment.

The main problem with us dog owners is why penalise the canines when the problems on the memorial ground are human.

Do any of the councillors know what goes on up there? I suggest a Saturday visit at around five or six o'clock - that should open their eyes.

The memorial ground belongs to the people of Watchet, not the cricket or football clubs.

Councillor Westcott should move to and live in Watchet before he spouts off about any problems that occur locally.

If the new chairman wants to make a name for himself he is going about it in the wrong way.

Why can't he clean up our streets of "human disregard" and not attack our canine friends.

I hope this vendetta against dogs is reconsidered.

Barry Miller,

Mill Street,

Watchet.
