SIR — It was with great interest that I read your report on the proposed seafood bar on Minehead seafront (Free Press April 28).
Are these councillors there to promote the town and encourage business in to the area, or are they power crazy, out of touch with modern day needs people who can only moan and knock back anyone who tries to make Minehead of interest to the holidaymaker visiting the town?
How can a seafood bar be out of keeping on a seafront?
The comment made about there being enough food outlets on the seafront, thus making sure people are not starving, is a very small-minded comment from what sounds like someone who is not really in touch with what the holidaymaker wants.

Food hygiene ratings given to four Somerset establishmentsThere must be about six estate agents in Minehead but I don't see we've got a housing problem, so how does that comment mean anything?
If Mr Davis wishes to invest money in to a market that is already catered for then he will be the one who is the loser, but I'm sure he has done his research and that he has a great idea in this seafood bar.
The reality of it is that anything to try and bring Minehead something different is always challenged by these negative people, who unfortunately have quite a big say in what goes on in Minehead.
The reference made to Minehead becoming like Southend or Blackpool also baffles me. Minehead is a seaside resort attracting people who enjoy a seaside holiday (if not why has all the money been spent on the seafront?).
I can see no problem with the type of business proposed being allowed to trade from the seafront and offering something different for our guests to enjoy. After all, not every one wants to eat fish and chips for the whole time they are in Minehead.
Maybe it is time for our council representatives to start encouraging things to happen on the seafront area, because at present all I can see are a couple of cafes, three amusement arcades and a pound shop. Not an awful lot to keep our visitors in Minehead is it?
Finally, are these people who say that this seafood bar is "aesthetically unacceptable" the same people who gave their full support for the dome at Butlins? I look forward to their replies.
