MORE than a year since he offered to put up £50,000 to help save the fast-crumbling coastline, Blue Anchor Hotel owner Simon Strom is watching helplessly as his livelihood threatens to disappear within ten years.
“Absolutely nothing has been done to stop the cliffs collapsing since everyone pulled out of a £600,000 rescue deal in December 2014,” he said.
“Since then, I’ve lost at least another four metres of my land. It seems no-one is interested in stopping Blue Anchor property and the B3191 road from falling into the sea.
“It’s quite scary, really. You wake up in the morning and wonder what you are going to find.”

Dunster waterwheel restoration will safeguard millennium of milling heritageSince 2006 wind and tide have constantly eroded the four acres of land around the hotel, bringing the cliff edge ever nearer to the buildings. In bad weather, up to four metres of lawn can disappear in a matter of months.
Recently, Mr Strom had to dismantle a play-area pirate ship at a cost of £8,000 because the ground on which it stood could have become unsafe, and now at least half the hotel garden is closed to visitors.
