After two years of intense fundraising, plans to close down The Jonathan Hope Memorial Fund are being made.

The closing event will be one to remember as Ray Lewis will bring The Drifters to Westland Sport & Social Complex on Friday October 10th.

Fund trustee Alan Hope said: "Not only will we have one of the greatest vocal bands ever on the night, we also have the most incredible ever auction of celebrity gifts from stars from around the globe."

Names included are Luciano Pavarotti, Pierce Brosnan, Bill Wyman, Danni Minogue and John Travolta to mention only a few.

Last year's auction featured some 60 items, but this year the 100 mark has always been passed.

Mr Hope said: "This will be a truly, truly amazing night and will be the last event organised by, and in aid of, The Jonathan Hope Memorial Fund.

"The fund has been raising money for two years now in Jon's memory, but it is time to be grateful for all that we have achieved and to now step aside.

"Tragically, there are other families like ours right here in Yeovil, who have also recently suffered the shattering loss of a son or daughter and I'm sure these families, too, will desperately want to help in anyway they can by setting up funds and charities.

"Whilst they take over the fight to help others, we can put our fund raising to bed in its rightful place and alongside Jonathan.

"He will be extremely proud of all he has achieved."

Jonathan Hope died from skin cancer in June 2001, aged 24.
