‘HOW many people see the stars as I do?’ is the title of a talk and video in The Avenue Methodist Church Hall, Minehead, on Wednesday (March 7).

Chris Chapman’s presentation to the Exmoor Natural History Society is on the life of Hope Bourne (pictured), who some consider one of the 20th century’s most extraordinary women.

She turned her back on a comfortable lifestyle and instead spent a quarter of a century in a remote valley in Exmoor where her love of freedom and wilderness inspired her to fend for herself.

Hope was resourceful and deeply knowledgeable about Exmoor where she scraped a living by writing about life on the rugged moorlands. She died in Withypool in 2010.

Admission free for society members and £2 on the door for non-members; 7.30pm start.
