A WORKER at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station construction site suffered a serious leg injry in an accident at the site over the weekend.
It is understood that a man was crushed when a reinforcement panel fell on his leg, on Saturday.
Hinkley paramedics were on the scene within three minutes of the incident to administer immediate treatment before he was taken to hospital.
Another worker who witnessed the incident said a steel frame box had fallen onto the man’s leg.
A Hinkley Point C spokesperson said: “An investigation into the incident is under way and we will ensure that the findings are used to protect the people who work here.
“The safety of our workforce is of paramount importance and alongside our contractor and trades unions partners we will continue to reinforce and improve our already strong safety record.”
The incident follows a safety failure at the site in March when a worker fell from a height of about 16 feet but avoided serious injury.
The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) later served improvement notices on contractors Laing O’Rourke and Bouygues Travaux Publics – partners in the Bylor JV which is constructing the power station.
A month later, hundreds of Bylor employees staged a walk-out to highlight concern over working arrangements.
