MEMBERS of West Somerset's Blooming Flute Choir have presented a cheque for £137 to the charity Help for Heroes.

The money was raised during a series of festive concerts under the directorship of choir founder Sue Fletcher.

The charity, which helps injured servicemen and women, was chosen as one of the choir members has a daughter serving in the RAF.

The flute choir was formed in 1995 by Mrs Fletcher with the aim of encouraging adults to rekindle their flute playing skills, while also providing adult beginners with the experience of playing in an ensemble.

As well as the choir, Mrs Fletcher also teaches youngsters at Timberscombe and Dunster First Schools, as well as students at Minehead Middle School and the West Somerset Community College.

She currently boasts a 100 per cent pass rate among all the musicians she has taught to exam level over the years.

Of Blooming Flutes, Mrs Fletcher said: "It is a real pleasure and privilege to work with such a dedicated group of people.

"They never fail to rise to the challenge of a hectic concert season and to support the work of Help for Heroes with the funds we have raised is a fantastic achievement for all involved."

The group rehearses in Dunster Tithe Barn each Thursday between 6.45pm and 7.45pm.
