A FIRE that destroyed ten acres of heathland at Crowcombe Gate on Saturday was started deliberately, according to Somerset Fire Brigade.

Crews from Williton, Minehead, Nether Stowey and Taunton were joined by specialist crews from Porlock, Wiveliscombe, Bridgwater and Taunton were called to the blaze at 2.30pm on Saturday.

On arrival, they found around eight acres of heath alight and successfully managed to limit the damage to just ten acres, putting the fire out around an hour later.
