HEALTH chiefs have been invited to attend Monday's (April 14) meeting of West Somerset Council's scrutiny committee to explain why they have temporarily closed Minehead's minor injuries unit overnight.

Members of the public will be able to attend the meeting but, with space limited, anyone wanting to go along should secure their place by emailing the council beforehand via sjrawle@westsomerset. gov.uk.

People will also be able to pose questions at the beginning of the meeting and the council has suggested people give advance notice of their questions in order to ensure they can be given a full response.

Anyone wanting to speak must register with the council by 4pm today (Friday) either via the email above or by telephoning the authority on 01643 703704.

A council spokesman said: "There is limited space in the council chamber in Williton so if large numbers of people attend not all may be able to sit in on the meeting.

"It might be advisable for groups to agree a delegate to speak on their behalf."

The Free Press revealed last month that Somerset Partnership and Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group blamed a shortage of trained staff for forcing the temporary closure of the unit between 11pm and 7am.
