DROP-IN sessions at a number of venues in West Somerset have been organised as a 12-week consultation got underway on Monday (January 29) over the future of certain libraries in the area.

Members of the public, as well as organisations, are being invited by Somerset County Council to have their say online, at libraries or at drop-in events being held over the coming weeks.

As reported last week, library services in five West Somerset areas are at risk – Bishops Lydeard, Dulverton, Watchet, Wiveliscombe and Nether Stowey.

Libraries in Minehead, Porlock and Williton will not see any change, and there is an option that Dulverton could also stay as it is.

Options being considered in the consultation include either maintaining existing library buildings with a local community and council partnership, or having a new mobile library stop in addition to a number of others in the area.

The drop-in events include:

* Bishops Lydeard Village Hall, Wednesday February 7, 2.30pm to 5pm.

* Dulverton Library, Thursday February 8, 10am-1pm.

* Nether Stowey Library, Wednesday February 14, 2pm-5pm.

* Watchet Library, Wednesday February 7, 2pm-5pm.

* Wiveliscombe Library, Wednesday February 21, 2pm-5pm.

At Nether Stowey, Watchet and Wiveliscombe libraries, there will be small group discussions taking place every hour. Members of the public are invited to join a session or just drop in to talk to the consultation team.

The consultation runs until April 22. For full details including an online questionnaire, visit somerset.gov.uk/librariesconsultation.
