GILBERT and Sullivan’s much-loved comic opera The Mikado will bring this year’s Simonsbath Festival towards its end.
The performance on Saturday June 16 is by Opera Anywhere, known for unique versions of operas old and new which are innovative, fun and entertaining.
The Mikado, or The Town of Titipu, tells the story of Nanki-poo, son of the Mikado of Japan, who flees his father’s imperial court to avoid marrying a much older suitor and to search for his true love Yum-Yum.
But Yum-Yum is betrothed to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner, against her will. How will this tangled web of love be sorted out before anyone loses their head? The performance starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15 to reserve, £10 standard, £11 on the door, £7.50 students and unemployed, free for 14s and under.
