As part of a new venture to bring international art exhibitions to Minehead, Raphael Revealed will be screened at the Regal Theatre on Tuesday (October 12) at 7.30 pm.
Marking the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death, the greatest exhibition ever held of his works took place in Rome. Exhibition on Screen (EOS) was granted exclusive access to this once-in-a-lifetime show.
With more than 200 masterpieces, including paintings and drawings – more than 100 of which have been brought together for the first time – this major exhibition celebrates the life and work of Raphael Sanzio da Urbino.
With loans from the Louvre, Uffizi, National Gallery of Art, the Prado Museum and more, the exhibition and this film provide an unprecedented opportunity to see the breadth of Raphael’s skill, creativity and ingenuity.
Award-winning director Phil Grabsky provides a fresh look at this giant of the Renaissance, and shows why he is considered one of the all-time greats. The film covers his life in Rome, and includes unique footage of the ancient Rome that was such a powerful influence, including rare footage of Nero’s Golden House that Raphael himself visited.
Raphael was one of the most extraordinary artists of the Renaissance but is often misunderstood or mythologised. This exhibition allows Raphael, for the first time, to be truly revealed.
Tickets for Raphael Revealed cost £10 and numbered seats may be booked in advance online and at the Regal box office, 01643 706430, between 9.30am and 12pm or by phone only from 1.30pm to 4pm, Monday to Saturday.
Some Covid restrictions remain in place. Everyone will be asked to use the hand sanitiser provided and wear a face mask on entering the theatre.
More details about forthcoming events and how to join the mailing list are available on the Regal Theatre website.
