SIR — The report in the Free Press last week concerning West Somerset College's GCSE results has resulted in a petition http://tinyurl.com/nbn2ylp">http://tinyurl.com/nbn2ylp which states: "Remove the Principal and call in Ofsted". I see it is already signed and commented on by over 150 parents and students. Many of these comments come from students whose futures depend so much on good results. Although there may be some bandwagon effect, nonetheless there appears to be a frightening consistency in the comments from them and their worried parents. Losing coursework is unforgivable - it must be somewhere. It doesn't just disappear unless someone has destroyed it. Systems should be in place for care of coursework at all times and governors should discover and reprimand whoever allowed this to occur. From the comments it is abundantly clear there are problems with current management - loss of staff, loss of work, GCSE grades through the floor, interference with other schools, discipline, budget shortcomings - all of which are costing our community dearly. Th governors are ultimately responsible and I challenge them now to tell our community precisely what they are doing to remedy these serious issues before the students are forced to hire their own bus to Taunton or Wiveliscombe.
