SIR — Your readers will be pleased to hear that we have recently received two good reports concerning RoSEP's work in Santana.

The first is from Alistair Ozanne, who is managing our work in Santana. He focuses on the house, the garden, the personnel, the families that we give some support to and the wider field. His report is available to anyone interested from me.

Of considerable importance to RoSEP has been the prolonged exercise in establishing a complementary Romanian charity in Romania, Fundatia Sant Ana; with ultimate authority remaining with RoSEP.

This has also involved visits to Bucharest to get national recognition. That being achieved, it was still necessary for the approval of Santana's village council if this recognition was to have any benefit.

The council consists of 25 residents who represent the 'village' and its various ethnic groups, i.e. Romanians, Swabs (Swabia — S W Germany), Hungarians and the Gypsies.

RoSEP's house and its work were visited and inspected, and Alistair shared with them our vision for the project and the wider needs of Santana.

Marco, our builder and translator, read in Romanian RoSEP's recent history and our plans for the future. The council responded by expressing its thanks for our work, especially amongst the young people.

Special reference was made to the encouragement we give to education (computers to schools and financial assistance to individuals), in employment on site and our plans for a workshop etc. They also noted the help that we have been giving to poor families over a period of time.

Different councillors gave glowing reports of other aspects of our work and were supported by other encouraging and positive comments. The council unanimously supported what RoSEP is doing in Santana.

All of this is made possible by the support of people like your readers and beyond. Mrs Helen Newman, RoSEP's treasurer, is therefore very keen that our sincere thanks be expressed to all who have supported RoSEP. Many ways of raising money have been used — Lent jar collections, sponsored activities, concerts and direct donations from individuals, organisations and churches.

Rev Denis Newman,

Chairman of Trustees,

RoSEP.
