STAWLEY Parish Council is calling for the local community’s views on the future of the Globe Inn at Appley, which closed in December.
The council is calling a public meeting on Tuesday (April 4) at Appley Pavilion, Appley Cross, at 7.30pm, to find out if people are interested in launching a bid to buy the Globe Inn and run it as a community pub.
The Grade 11 listed building, believed to be over 500 years old, was originally the village smithy, and has been serving customers from the surrounding rural areas, Wellington and parts of Somerset and Devon for many decades.
The property recently went on the market and is being advertised for sale with potential to re-establish the pub business.
If there is enough interest, the council will consider triggering a moratorium on its sale to allow time for the community to consider putting together a bid.
The Globe is listed on Taunton Deane Borough Council’s Register of Community Assets, which means the community has a “right to bid” and any potential sale can be frozen for up to six months while a community bid is prepared.
People can also get in touch with the parish council and give their views via the website, stash.org.uk or email [email protected].
