SIR — On Sunday at 10.30am, my start to the morning was shattered by very loud music coming from Blenheim Gardens and introduced by an equally loud compere.

This was so ghastly that my ease into what is still considered to be a day of rest was utterly spoiled and my temper raised, not for the first time, by the mindless approval of whatever application is required to allow such a din.

I have no problem whatsoever with "nice" music wafting around on a Sunday afternoon (any afternoon, come to that) but it is quite unforgivable to give a permit for anything that constitutes a jarring noise to emanate on a Sunday morning from a central location that will affect the majority of residents over a few holidaymakers who might be wandering around looking for entertainment.

Does anybody in our local council give a damn about the local indigenous population? Does everything have to revolve around giving visitors a good time?

They come, they go. We, on the other hand, live here and it would be oh, so nice to be given due consideration when applications of this sort are made in future.
