WILLITON paid tribute to its past and created a legacy for its future when it marked the centenary of the outbreak of World War One with an event that brought young and old together. The local branch of the Royal British Legion scooped a Heritage Lottery Fund grant worth almost £8,000 to help deliver its plans to commemorate the landmark. The money helped volunteers to stage a special exhibition, highlighting the sacrifices made by the local men who lost their lives in the 1914-18 conflict and whose names are recorded on the village's war memorial. But the highlight of the project, which won the support of Williton Parish Council and the three schools of the Quantock Academy, was a day of commemoration last Saturday.
