A MEMORIAL fund set up as a legacy for a Minehead rugby player who died in a tragic accident has raised over £15,000 in just over six months.
And organisers are now calling for applications from people who want help with funding for sports coaching and development.
The Freddie Pring Memorial Fund was set up last July after 20-year-old Freddie, a gifted Minehead Barbarians player, died after falling from a balcony in Magaluf in June.
The aim of the fund is to provide grants to sporting individuals, clubs or community projects which enhance or develop the careers of sportsmen or sportswomen in West Somerset.
The money raised so far has come through events, merchandise sales, challenges, donations and collections from charity pots around West Somerset.
The fund will support a diverse range of needs such as sporting development for children with special education needs to an adult who has suffered with mental health who would like to become a fitness instructor.
Grants of between £200 and £2,500 will be awarded, with only one application per organisation.
