FOUR Minehead fund-raisers are hoping that five months of relentless training over Exmoor will pay off this weekend when they tackle what is reckoned to be the UK’s toughest mountain challenge.

Minehead Rugby Club vice-chairman Justin Harris and three friends will take on the Brecon Beacons Ten Peak Challenge.

It follows weekly 12-hour training sessions and involves more than 15,000ft of climbing over 24 hours and five hours in darkness.

And they are hoping to raise over £4,000 for five good causes.

This follows the team’s spectacular success in last year’s Three Peaks Challenge in Scotland, the Lake District and Wales.

Beating the 24-hour time-limit by more than four hours raised over £14,000 for charities that had supported Justin’s wife in her sadly unsuccessful fight against terminal cancer.

This year, Justin, Tom White and Richard Henson have been joined by newcomer Charlie Walker-Blair. He replaces John Webber who is away on a plumbing course.
