A commemoration service was held on V J Day (August 15th ) at Blenheim Gardens Burma Star Memorial to commemorate those who had served in the Burma campaign during World War Two.

They were known as the Forgotten Army and suffered hugely with men dying in their thousands on the Death railway and in the jungles.

The service was conducted by the Rev Vincent Woods.

Verses from St John’s gospel were read by Maj Robert Mcdonald B.E.M. Somerset Chairman of The Royal British Legion who also made the Exhortation after the wreath was laid by Cllr Andy Milne from Somerset West and Taunton Council and Somerset Armed Forces Community Covenant champion.

The Kohima Epitaph was read by Capt Walter Godsal R.N. who is one of the remaining veterans of the Burma camapign.

The Bugler was John Leach.

A passage from Bunyans Pilgrims Progess was read by Stuart Dowding on behalf of Glyn (who served in Burma) and Claire Court who had given so much to the Minehead branch of the Burma Star Association over many years.
