The Environment Agency has issued fresh flood alerts for the West Somerset coast affecting Porlock Weir and Minehead.

In guidance last updated on Tuesday evening the Environment Agency warned flooding would be possible across the coastal towns.

A Flood Alert is the first of three levels of alarm, followed by a Flood Warning and a Severe Flood Warning in severity.

In the event you are in the flood alert area, Environment Agency advice is to: "Keep up to date with the latest flood risk situation - call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or follow @EnvAgency and #floodaware on Twitter for the latest flood updates.

"Have a bag ready with vital items like insurance documents and medications in case you need to leave your home. Check you know how to turn off your gas, electricity and water mains supplies and plan how you'll move family and pets to safety."

The alert comes ahead of heavy rain forecast to fall across Exmoor and West Somerset. The Met Office forecasts heavy rain over Minehead and Porlock on Wednesday evening, followed by heavy showers and sunny spells through Thursday. The rain will ease at the weekend before it gives way to dry conditions and sunny spells from Monday.
