MINEHEAD’S Irnham Road recreation ground could become a major state-of the arts sports centre in the next two years if plans being discussed with the town council go ahead.
The success of the schemes will depend on getting funding and planning permission.
But the council’s consultants have already set the processes in motion and are optimistic that the projects that would transform the town’s under-used facility have a good chance of success
The plans now being discussed for the council-owned land – and which, it is hoped, will join the new play area and public toilets – include:
* A new £3 million indoor swimming pool.
* A £300,000 football clubhouse with a social area for community use.
* New LED floodlights.
* An upgrade of existing tennis courts and multi-use games area.
